Using machine learning to automatically detect racism in memes.

Participants are required to identify offensive/racist memes from a database. They are then required to complete a quick survey on the offensive memes about whether they thought the text, the image or the combination of both made the meme offensive. This project is hoping to mitigate against some of the online harassment people receive.

This study has been approved by the University of Imperial College London on May 20th 2021.

About the researcher

I am a final year university student at Imperial College London and am currently working on a project to automatically detect racism in memes. I enjoy working with AI and use a lot of social media. I have been working in this area for just over 6 months and am coming towards the final stages of this project.
