Exploring the experience of an anorexic voice in anorexia nervosa

The ‘anorexic voice’ refers to the way people with anorexia have described experiencing their inner thoughts and feelings. This study tests a new questionnaire to help us understand more about the anorexic voice and how this is important.

This study has been approved by the NHS Greater Manchester West Research Ethics Committee (REC reference: 15/NW/0501). It has also been peer reviewed and approved by a committee of researchers and clinicians at the University of Manchester.
About the researcher
My name is Dr Kay Gant and I am a Trainee Clinical Psychologist studying for a doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Manchester. As part of my training I am conducting this research project to develop a new questionnaire that will assess part of anorexia we will refer to as the ‘anorexic voice’. Throughout the study a research team will support me. Our team includes Dr Filippo Varese – Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manchester, Professor Gillian Haddock, Section Lead for Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Manchester, Dr Stephanie Tierney - Research Fellow, and Dr John Fox – Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
